Soul Train x Red Spot (bust)

Soul Train x Red Spot 2013 — High Black 2 Soul Train was produced by me in 2007 with Mitey Mel and Lil Stevie.  There were several other high black offspring, with ST being the pick of the litter. Red Spot was produced by Greg Maxwell from Pygar x Original Green. Both adults came from all red clutches – so this could also be an all red clutch. Update Mar 09 – After lots of copulating, Red Spot never appeared to produce follicles.  So for this season this pairing is a bust.  At least Soul Train didn’t cower in a corner this year, but bred nearly every waking moment he was with Red Spot.  I am optimistic about his future!...

Soul Train x Lil Stevie (bust)

Soul Train x Lil Stevie — can someone say high BLACK?? Soul Train was produced by me in 2007 with Mitey Mel and Lil Stevie.  There were several other high black offspring, with ST being the pick of the litter. Lil Stevie was produced by Steve Gordon with a blue line sire and a Wamena type dam.  When she was paired with Mitey Mel in 2007, they produced some fantastic high black offspring.  This is her fourth pairing. Update Mar 09 – After lots of copulating, Lil Stevie never appeared to produce follicles.  So for this season this pairing is a bust.  At least Soul Train didn’t cower in a corner this year, but bred nearly every waking moment he was with Lil Stevie.  I am optimistic about his...

Mitey Mel x MelloYello (5 babies)

Mitey Mel x MelloYello — can you say High Yellow from red neos?? Mitey Mel is 50% Lemontree and 50% blue line.  He is a prolific breeder, and those yellow genetics always show up in his offspring. MelloYello is a Jayapura creation from Cathy Maynard, from two green parents.  Her freakishly yellow coloration with Mitey Mel’s high yellow genetics ought to produce some great offspring. They bred on and off for about a month before Mitey Mel seemed to lose interest.  I was not aware she was gravid until the day she laid her eggs.     Update Nov. 22 – MelloYello lays 12 eggs from her perch.  All 12 eggs were set up in the incubator.  Four of the eggs were lost within two weeks as they succumbed to mold.  Those eggs appeared to have little or no vein development. Update Dec 21 – All of the remaining eight eggs show strong vein development.  They have been incubating at 87.4 deg F for 29 days now.  A hatch date around Jan 10 is expected. Update Jan 11 – Eggs starting to hatch.  One has fully emerged and one has a nose out.  Looks like a mixed clutch as the first two are reds! Update Mar 09 – All offspring have had 10 meals and have shed twice.  They all appear to be thriving, woohoo! Dash-O-Pepper x Merlot (10 babies)

Dash-O-Pepper x Merlot — babies are here!! Dash is from Greg Maxwell’s repeat pairing of My Hobbit (aka Merauke Outcross) and Pepper in 2006.  Both the 2004 and 2006 pairings of these two produced some fantastic melanistic chondros. Merlot is from my 2007 pairing of Mite Mel and Lil Stevie.  This pairing also produced melanistic animals, some on par with Greg’s animals.     Update Dec. 27 – Merlot had her pre-lay shed.  Looking forward to eggs in a few weeks. Here is Merlot basking on Dec. 30 looking mighty pastel, even for her.    Update Jan 19 – Merlot laid 10 eggs and no slugs today.  They are all set up in the incubator, and most look to have vein development.  Will know more in a couple weeks about how many are good or not. Update Mar 12 – Eight babies have emerged, and the other two are alive but still in their eggs.     Update Mar 13 – all 10 have hatched.  Woohoo, 100%!!  Several are extremely dark.  I mean …DARK. Update Mar 30 – All have had their first meals and sheds.  Here are current shots of the clutch.  Just click an image for the larger view.                   ...
